Quito, the capital of Ecuador is one of the oldest cities on Earth, with more that 8.000 years of human vestiges. This is a walking tour designed to explore some iconic places of the Historical District, but discovering the most unexpected stories that have been kept in its 4 century-stone-carved facades or adobe and brick walls. We will start in front of the National Basilica, one of the most emblematic religious buildings of the city, whose construction begun more than 100 years ago and it is not finished yet, like the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Let's know the history of the guy that planned it and the torment that persecuted him during all his life. We will continue to a very unusual market located in the place where in 1910 there was a bullfightings' arena. From here, the stroll will pass through a French style passage where a guy was killed in 1926 and his story became very famous. The next stop will be at a small museum where we will know the life and work of an stunning artist, considered one of the pioneers of Modernism in Ecuador and Latin America. Afterwards, we will have a look to a very sumptuous palace and its hidden dark history. Following the Venezuela street we will get the Main Square and from here we will explore the enigmatic Metropolitan Cathedral and the Street of the Seven Crosses with the stunning Jesuits' church. This tour for beginners will finish in the San Francisco's church.
