National Tour Guide of Ecuador with 17 years of experience, specialized in history, arts and archaeology of Latin America. I speak Spanish, English, Portuguese and French. I love reading, tourism, world music and my passion is theater.
San Marcos is one of the oldest districts of Quito, founded by the Spaniards as a parish for Indigenous people in 1595. The oldest structure very well preserved is the small church, built in 1600. Even though this neighborhood has been far from the main square in Colonial times, it was the witness of many historical events such as revolts and the Independence first attempt in 1809. Its houses have kept the secrets of many stories that occurred throughout the centuries. It is a wonderful open air museum of architecture with one of the best samples of the city. Some museums, art galleries, workshops, restaurants and hostels are now part of its charm. I invite you to discover the magic of a place that combines history with arts and the real life of a residential neighborhood. PLACES TO VISIT - Bólivar Theater hall - Dios No Muere Coffeeshop - Manuela Sáenz Museum* - House of the Cultures* - Main Square - Some art galleries... The tour will finish at Bocanada Cultural, a small hadmade pizza and craft beer where you also have amazing temporary exhibits of contemporary art. *NOTE: It is important to pay the entrance fee to Manuela Sáenz Museum (USD 3,00 pp) and House of the Cultures (USD 3,00 pp)

Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
