The city of Dresden was born as a small medieval nucleus next to the Elbe River, which will have its climax during the Baroque period in the 18th century. It will be the moment of splendor for the city, in which multiple buildings will be built and the court of the Elector will receive internationally renowned artists, such as Johann Sebastian Bach. In the 19th century, the city became the capital of the Kingdom of Saxony and one of the engines of industrial development in eastern Germany. Unfortunately, much of the "Florence on the Elbe" old town and its works of art will be destroyed by the catastrophic bombing raids in February 1945. During the GDR era and until today, the city rose from its ashes. Our tour begins at the Frauenkirche, Dresden's landmark church and symbol of peace, which was rebuilt after its destruction in World War II. Then we will take a walk on the Brühl terrace - with beautiful views of the Elbe river -, we will admire the Dresden castle and the court church, and in front of the Fürstenzug we will learn the history of the Wettin family, the family that reigns. Saxony for 800 years. To end the tour, we will talk about the Dresden Opera and finish at the Zwinger, the pearl of the Saxon Baroque.
