Hi, my name is David. I am a professional tour guide and I've lived in Jozi all my life. I love to travel and have done many free walking tours on my past holidays. Now it's my turn to be a Guru and to teach tourists from all over the world about this amazing city's culture and history. Get to know all about Johannesburg and some of its famous residents like Nelson Mandela on my free walking tours.
Johannesburg's history is marked by institutionalized racism that was known as apartheid. One of Johannesburg's most famous residents is Nelson Mandela. On this tour, I will take you to iconic places that are related to Mandela's life and work and you will see how the city has changed to become more metropolitan and respectful of the cultures that make up its demographic today. **I will be out of the city for a few months. Please excuse any inconvenience and enjoy Johannesburg while I'm gone!" Get a clear idea of Johannesburg's layout by doing this free tour. It will focus on the buildings/landmarks that pertain to Mandela's story, but will also pass by several important monuments and I can explain the general information about them also. -Nelson Mandela's former home in the Soweto neighborhood. -The Nelson Mandela House Museum and Visitor's Center -The Apartheid Museum -Vilakazi Street -Regina Mundi Church -Constitutional Hill -Freedom Square Depending on how big the group is and how many questions there are, this tour will last between 2 and 3 hours. The tour will make a brief stop at a restaurant for a 15 min break. There are WC's there for you to use free of cost. Any snacks/refreshments are NOT included though.
I'll be in the Main Street Square wearing a green shirt and holding a green umbrella
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
