Open Roads Portugal is a tourism brand created by 3 locals based in the beautiful city of Tomar, Portugal. Tomar is a city located in the Ribatejo region in the centre of Portugal, home to the UNESCO Heritage site, Convent of Christ, headquarters of the millennial Templars, of a unique synagogue in the country and of many other century’s old monuments and churches. Encapsolating an unmatching living history which permeates every corner, picturesque streets and an unrivalled natural beauty, Tomar makes one of the favourite spots for the tourists. ORP has been developing for a year now guided tours throughout the city, having already reached many people on the way with its compelling story-telling. We want to provide tourism which is truthful to reality, showcasing the local side of Tomar in the most genuine and original way we can! Come meet us!
The BEST and only free tour in town! Starting at the main square of Tomar, we will be greeted by its founder, D.Gualdim Pais. In his company, we will know more about the numerous symbols that hide around the square. Here, we will also have the opportunity to see the heritage left by King D. Manuel, including Saint John the Baptist Church, architectured in his own personal style. We will be on our way again, this time to enter the former Jews’ street and where we will go back to 15th century, to visit The Synagogue. A unique piece of Jewish history. Meanwhile let us observe the iconic corner windows, a symbol of once architecture. We will take a left to Levada Street where we will learn more about the old factories that took place there and the importance of the Nabão river to the city. Returning to the Serpa Pinto street, the main and most emblematic street of Tomar, we will make our way to the main square having the scenic image of the Castle and the Convent of Christ in the background.
