Hello, we are AuthenticMalta, a local travel agency with the commitment of offering distinctive tours. Visits range from the most classic to the unique, from what you cannot miss, to what you could not imagine to find in our small islands. We are licenced guides from Malta and above all things we love what we do. :) We are a company, this it allows us to offer you discounts and specialized guides for each visit, offering the best of us in every tour! If you don´t see availability for a particular day for one of our tours, if you contact us we may be able to help opening a slot for you. We want you to fall in love with our islands as much as we are. We look forward to meeting you and to share with you the most authentic Malta.
About the tour
St. John's Co-Cathedral is a unique place. Considered the most baroque building in the world for being decorated from floor to ceiling, it is a prodigality of art, luxury and beauty. It also includes 2 paintings by one of the greatests artists of all times and more difficult to track: Caravaggio.
And with this tour you can visit this with a giude and cheaper than usual.
Firstly we want you to notice that we have another Free Tour that includes a visit to Valletta (Tour of Valletta, UNESCO capital, and co-cathedral with a discount), in case you still do not know the city and want to kill two birds with one stone.
But if you already know the city and what you want to discover is only the co-cathedral, this is your tour.
Your creed doesn't matter: being in Valletta and not visiting the cathedral is a sin. And since we do not want it on our conscience, we want to make it easy for you: if you visit it with us, YOU WILL HAVE 2 EUROS DISCOUNT on the ticket price (reducing it from € 15 to € 13), plus we will enter through the special ticket for groups with a guide, which usually reduces the waiting time considerably. Furthermore, this is a Free tour, so apart from entering the temple for 2€ less than usual, you are the ones to value our work.
On the visit, our goal will be that you can appreciate the most impressive aspects, go to the smallest details and enjoy the main masterpieces of this gigantic and opulent building full of art. Along the way we will also talk about the Order of saint John, of course, but here we want to focus on its artists and its cultural legacy:
-We will talk about Mannerism, the style in which the cathedral (and the city) is built
-its subsequent evolution to Baroque,
-Mattia Preti and Mazzuoli, the main artists, and many others who left their mark on the temple
-its unique floor (described as the world's beautiful), its ornaments, its ... Everything.
Curiosities, secrets and some gossip, as we will visit some of the most notable characters of their time.
And of course, Caravaggio, from which we can appreciate 2 of his paintings: "Saint Jerome writing" and "Saint John the Baptist", the latter considered by many to be his masterpiece, and undoubtedly an exceptional work by the artist.
LOGISTICS This tour is really the second part of our Valletta tour. This means that you may have to wait a bit, as we will arrive with the group: just wait for us in the shade near the statue and stay tuned a bit. When we arrive, you will hear us, for sure :) Keep in mind that in the Co-Cathedral there are no lockers, so it is better that you do not go too loaded. In addition, it is a place of worship, so we recommend appropriate clothing, which means covering shoulders and above knees.
MEASURES FOR COVID-19 Important information: We are taking safety and hygiene measures recommended by the health authorities: - Limited number of visitors - Safety distance between visitors - Obligatory own mask
