Hello! I'm Alex! I was born in Limerick, Ireland, but grew up in Asturias (north of Spain), so I'm as Spanish as an Irishman can be! After completing my BA in English & Spanish Literature I moved to Madrid and don't plan on leaving! I've been a tour guide for three years and couldn't imagine a better way to spend my time than showing off my adopted city to people from around the world.
Did the Moors ever reach Madrid? Why is it the capital of Spain? Is flamenco a big deal here? Did anyone really expect the Spanish Inquisition? Can you still feel the aftermath of the civil war? What's a tapa? Where can I get the best tinto de verano? What's tinto de verano? All these questions and many more will be answered in this engaging and entertaining two and a half hour walking tour of Spain's mysterious capital city. From its origins of a small Roman market town to the bustling metropolis it is today, weave through ancient alleys towards modern plazas... Have fun, and learn! Tour highlights: 1) Original walls of the city 2) Palace and cathedral district 3) Literary neighborhood 4) Retiro Park 5) And many more enchanting corners of this magnificent city
Plaza de la Puerta Cerrada, by the big cross.
