Hi! I am Diogo Valente Ribas, I am a graduate in Art History, graduated from the University of Coimbra. :) I have been a tour guide since 2014. I love meeting new people and teaching our history, culture, food, traditions, architecture, and lifestyle, among many other topics. Discover Belém and Sintra with me.
We will leave the meeting point to go to the popular neighborhood of Belém, located on the banks of the Tagus. Upon our arrival we will be greeted by statues of sailors, who greet locals and tourists from the Monument to the Discoveries. As we walk along the banks of the Tagus, we will learn about events that have marked the history of the city, such as the maritime route of spices to India, devised by João II of Portugal. We will continue our walk to the Plaza del Imperio, and there we will discover the Jerónimos Monastery. Did you know that it was built to commemorate Vasco de Gama's return from India? We will return to the Tagus to see one of the most representative symbols of Lisbon: the Torre de Belém. Built for military purposes, this keep is one of the best examples of Manueline architecture. Your photos here will look like postcards! And how could it be otherwise, we will finish our tour in one of the most typical pastry shops in the neighborhood. There we can get to know Belém through its most traditional flavor, tasting the Belém cakes, also called pastelitos de nata.
In front of the tram station, in fact and with a tie. I am very tall.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
