I am a San Franciscan through and through! My family landed here about 1890 and generations have lived and loved here ever since. As a fourth generation local, I was born and raised in the bay area, spent much of my early years in San Francisco and now am thrilled every day for the last 28 years to wake up every day in this beautiful city! As a past entertainer, singer, and current culinary instructor, I'm excellent at telling a story in an engaging and colorful way, and being a history buff (with my favorite subject being San Francisco) I'll work hard to make sure you enjoy your time with me.
About the tour
Become an art critic for a day!
The Mission is one of San Francisco’s less visited neighborhoods, but also one of the most vibrant, colorful and festive! Every wall comes alive with local art murals, in fact, over 2500 of them in just this district alone! From the end to end traditional and expressive murals in Clarion and Balmy Alley, to the top to bottom, full building murals on 24th St and The Women’s Center – these giant works of art make for a great day of frolicking through the busy streets of San Francisco’s Hispanic district.
The Mission is also known to locals to have the very best Latin and Mexican cuisine in The City by The Bay. No visit would be complete without sampling some regional specialties and the tour will make a couple stops at family owned local eateries (food not included on the tour) Learn the secrets of the Mission Burrito (San Francisco’s own creation!), take in the fresh “cut to order” butcher and vegetable shops, or go home raving about the best El Salvadorian pupusa you’ve ever had!
History, art, culture, cuisine, and a walk that won’t cover any hills! (A rare find in San Francisco), this two and a half hour walking tour covers a lot of territory from the South of Mission area to the historic Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores), the first building erected and the spot where San Francisco began its way to becoming a world class city!
Sights and Points Covered:
Dozens of traditional, colorful murals including Balmy and Clarion Alleys
Historic Mission Dolores
The history of the Mission District and background on many of its artists
Many funky, fun and totally unique shops along busy Valencia Street including a taxidermist, a handbag shop where they are stitched in front of you, and a pirate supply store!
