Gonçalo Lopes Walking Tours places several local guides at your disposal throughout the year, that being our only project. Committing to our task of guiding and making our heritage known, we strive to explore new places, to try new restaurants and to learn everything that may ensure the quality of our tours. We love to meet people from all over the world: either travelers or tourists bound for Coimbra, and we love to discuss our history, culture, food, traditions, architecture and lifestyle, among many other subjects. And through this passion of ours, we became tour guides! Most of us were born and raised here in Coimbra. We possess both academic degrees and linguistic know-how!

About the Tour

When the sunlight begins to dim, we will meet at the historic Puerta de Hierro. From there, under the cover of sunset, we will begin the free night tour of Coimbra, a tour of its streets, full of legends and stories. Discover the most emblematic places of the most famous university city in Portugal with this guided tour. Coimbra will captivate you at first sight! We will admire the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest in Europe. We will continue with the tour taking you to the New Cathedral, important in traditions and academic life. We continue to the old bishop's house, which today is the National Museum of Machado de Castro. We will go to the Old Cathedral, whose façade we will see that it is one of the best preserved Romanesque buildings in the country. You will love it! We will learn about the history of fado, the traditional music of Coimbra. And it is that this type of song is closely linked to the university life of the beautiful Portuguese town. We'll find out why! We will cross the Arch of Almedina, we will pass through the Plaza del Comercio until we reach the Church of Santiago. Finally, the Monastery of Santa Cruz. Did you know that the remains of the first two kings of Portugal rest in this temple? 18:00 h. (January, February, March, November and December) 7:00 p.m. (April, May, September and October) 9:00 p.m. (June, July and August)

Meeting point: Open in Google Maps

How to find me: In front of the iron gate, with a blue umbrella.
