Hello! I'm Alex, a long time tour guide and history PhD candidate with experience at multiple historic sites around the UK. I began GuruWalk tours in Oxford, however I'm now back in my home county of Lincolnshire and excited to tell you about its history and culture. Discover Oxford Tours will soon be relaunched under the stewardship of my trusted friend and colleague Natalia. Watch this space, or message me for details.
Join me in exploring the medieval lanes of Oxford by the light of its historic streetlamps. Beginning at Oxford Castle you’ll learn how Christmas would have been celebrated by the first Oxfordians over 1000 years ago and uncover what the 25th of December would have been like for a Victorian prisoner. Heading into the heart of the city we’ll swing by some of the most famous Colleges of the University of Oxford, including Christchurch, Balliol , Trinity and Queens, seeing how each of them has put their own spin on Christmas celebrations down the centuries. You'll discover why the University of Oxford has two Christmases, learn which college celebrates by serving up a boar's head, and who hosts the Nepotists’ Carol concert. We'll also make a stop in Radcliffe Square, home of the Bodleian Library, University Church and possibly the doorway to Narnia. Here I'll explain how the city of Oxford has inspired some of the great works of Christmas literature before finishing with a look at some of the City's most famous buildings and an optional mulled wine tasting for an extra fee.
