WHAT IS COGHLAN: URBAN ART, SUBURBAN PEACE? Coghlan is an oasis in the vertigo of Buenos Aires. An English-style neighborhood built for and by train, with a friendly and authentic rhythm, where a sense of town, or small island with a magical climate, and a unique imprint of street art and urban muralism is perceived. In Coghlan it makes you want to sit and watch people go by ... and let Coghlan pass through our eyes: walls intervened by artists from all over the world, full of messages and colors; low houses, other stately, triangular roofs that evoke story castles; factories converted into universities and ecological lofts ... and mythical stories of those who toured its streets. Coghlan is that old British-style farmhouse, which began to grow around the station, and today is synonymous with austere modernity, ancient customs and young ideas, with an urban mentality while retaining the suburban serenity of 1891, the year that John Coghlan It became a neighborhood.

WHERE IS COGHLAN: URBAN ART, SUBURBAN PEACE? We walk its quiet streets converted into an open-air museum, and discover stencil, graffiti, collage ... an explosion of street art works by world-renowned artists, which make Coghlan one of the mecca of muralism in the city. But in Coghlan art is also in its gut: we are surprised in the tunnel named Luis Alberto Spinetta, icon of our rock, where 40 artists painted 40 murals with images of their records; and there is another tunnel: that of La Smorfia Coghlanense, an old dream interpretation system to play the lottery, translated into murals throughout the entire viaduct. We visited the Coghlan train station, the green and cultural station, the only one in the world with its own public library. We enjoy the English railway architecture from its iconic iron bridge manufactured in Glasgow, Scotland, and become a hallmark of the neighborhood from the naive painting of the artist Anikó Szabó. We also know the 35-meter Coghlan Obelisk, the Socrates, Valderrama and Plutarco passages, the cultural and artistic warehouse of organic products, and the factories converted into universities and luxury homes.
This is Coghlan: the old paradise of the English and Basque speakers, and the new oasis of modern porteños who are looking for their place in the world.

Gustavo is excellent. He takes more obscure barrios of BA & makes them fascinating. I had never heard of Coghlan prior to signing up for the tour but after going on Gustavo’s Barracas tour I knew he would make Coghlan interesting. And he did not disappoint.

😁 Abrazos santafesinos, Clara y Elisabet
