Good morning, I am the Guide of La Palma Free Tours, we take care of doing Free Tours through the impressive historic center of our city, Santa Cruz de La Palma. I am a dynamic person, historian, film and theater actress, writer...
In this interesting daytime Free Tour, we will get to know the Historic Center of the capital on a guided route that lasts about 2 hours.
We will start in one of the most visited squares on the Island, the only one with a monument to Los Divinos in Spain, Plaza Van Dale.
From Plaza Vandale, we will go to the main street, C/ Real or C/ O`Daly, in memory of one of the illustrious Irish who settled on the Island.
We will enter the Church of El Salvador, cradle of the many Flemish tapestries of the 16th century. From the Plaza de España, we will also comment on the façade of the capital's City Hall, the first city hall established democratically and by popular vote in all of Spain and one of the first three places in the entire national territory, where electricity arrived.
From O'Daly Street, we will go to Anselmo Pérez de Brito Street, which also pays tribute to an illustrious palm tree of the time. We will first go to the most famous balconies in the Canary Islands. We will continue our walk admiring the colonial-style houses with their windows and balconies with Mudejar-style lattices.
We will arrive at the Third Cross that commemorates the conquest of the island. We will go up to the Plaza de la Alameda where we can see
the famous Barco de la Virgen and talk about our main lustral festival: The Descent of the Virgin. The visit ends at El Castillo de Santa Catalina de Alejandría, a small fortress near the sea, which was completed in the 17th century, to protect the city from corsair attacks.
