I'm not the youngest guide around, but hopefully my experience can compensate for the grey hair!:) I was born in Australia, but moved to Latvia, my parents' homeland, in 1994. I've worked as a journalist, a translator and a guide, and have lived through some huge changes in this amazing part of the world. My passion is showing visitors around this country, especially fascinating Riga and beautiful Jūrmala. I have tons of history, stories, images, songs and jokes to share with you - so come and join me for an in-depth but fun journey!:)
Discover Riga's stunning Old Town and amazing Central Market on this fascinating tour!
We explore 1,000 years of history, checking out medieval churches, historic warehouses, and icons like the Three Brothers, the Cat House, and the Powder Tower. Did you know Riga has risen by 3 metres over the centuries? That ships have been found under the cobblestones? Or where to find a piece of Venice in Riga? I'll tell you all about this, and many more great stories!
There will be a few stops indoors, so we won't be in the cold too long.
Then we head to the Central Market and its five Zepellin hangar pavilions. I'll tell you about Latvia's wonderful bread, cheese, pickles, smoked fish, honey and other delicacies. And at the end of the tour, you can have a tasty market lunch if you like.
So, book now to enjoy the finest sights, scents, and tasted in Riga!
We meet in front of St. Peter's Church in Old Riga. I will be standing beside the big wooden horse. I'll be wearing an orange hat or an orange hoodie, depending on the weather.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
