The Grand Riga Art Nouveau Tour

Duration: 2h
Languages: English

I'm not the youngest guide around, but hopefully my experience can compensate for the grey hair!:) I was born in Australia, but moved to Latvia, my parents' homeland, in 1994. I've worked as a journalist, a translator and a guide, and have lived through some huge changes in this amazing part of the world. My passion is showing visitors around this country, especially fascinating Riga and beautiful Jūrmala. I have tons of history, stories, images, songs and jokes to share with you - so come and join me for an in-depth but fun journey!:)

Tour description

With more than 800 Art Nouveau buildings, Riga has the world's biggest collection of this exuberant style. And this tour is a captivating journey through this incredible heritage!

A highlight of visiting Riga is wandering down Alberta iela to enjoy the bizarre-yet-beautiful creations of Mikhail Eisenstein. But that's only the tip of the iceberg of Art Nouveau in Riga. So on my tour, I'll also show you fantastic structures by Latvian architects Konstantīns Pēkšēns and Eižēns Laube. Along the  way, we'll drop into the place where a saint was born, see a chunk of the Berlin Wall, stroll in Riga's oldest park and find out where John F. Kennedy stayed in Riga. And check out a hilarious ugly poster of Putin near the Russian embassy!
