Cuenca is a city in Spain that is known as the "City of Hanging Houses". It has been a tourist destination for centuries and has much to offer.
One of Cuenca's most outstanding attractions is its historic quarter. The old town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, and it is not hard to see why. The historic centre of Cuenca is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe with narrow cobbled streets and 15th century buildings.
Cuenca also has many other attractions for visitors such as museums, parks and gardens.
It is a city with a lot to offer its visitors. To make sure you don't miss a single detail, there is nothing better than to have a professional guide on one of the Free Tours of Cuenca that we offer at GuruWalk.
We can start our Free Night Tour at the Bezudo Arch. It was built in 1717 and is a symbol of the city.
It is located in the Plaza de San Juan, which was formerly called Plaza del Arco. The arch has three arches and connects the two sides of this square with an open space in the middle. The arches are decorated with sculptures representing characters from the history of Cuenca, such as San Juan and San Francisco de Asís. This is the access point to the former seat of the Holy Inquisition.
With the night-time illumination, this is a totally different experience.
The same is true of the Florencio Cañas viewpoint.
The Florencio Cañas viewpoint in Cuenca is a tourist attraction that offers a panoramic view of the city. It is located at the top of the Cerro del Panecillo, which is the third highest point in Cuenca. It was inaugurated on 18 October 2017 and is named after one of the most renowned Ecuadorian poets. It is about 100 metres high and can be reached by car or on foot.
From the viewpoint we can enjoy a privileged view of the Aqueduct. The Aqueduct of Cuenca is a historical monument that has been standing for more than 1500 years. It was built during the Roman Empire and is one of the best preserved monuments of the period. It has a total length of 11 kilometres and its construction took some 25 years to complete. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
